GENERAL INFORMATION ON MATHS
QUIZ 2017
1. Maths Quiz 2017 will be carried out in two categories:
i) Senior Category for form four and form five students
ii) Junior Category for form two and form three students.
Each
school must sent a school team (consisting of 3 participants)
for the Senior Category and another school
team (consisting of 3 participants) for the Junior Category .
2. Beginning in 2017, the Maths Quiz allows Private teams to be formed for those who are interested in taking part in Senior or Junior Categories. Private teams must also consist of three students, not necessarily from the same school but must be in the same age category.
3. For each category (Junior or Senior), the mathematical quiz competition will be divided into three sessions.
- First Session - each participant (from the school team and private) have to answer 40 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes
- Second Session - each team (school and private) have to answer 6 questions subjectively within 45 minutes.
- Third Session - 10 best school teams from the second session will have to answer one question that will be determined on the day itself.
4. All
questions are provided in English ONLY.
5. Entry fee for EACH TEAM (for each category) is RM 50.00 .
6. Participation forms that are submitted without proof of payment of the entry fee will not be entertained.
7. Participation
is limited to the first 100 teams registered with
payment. Please check the availability of participation places by referring
to the list of participants in mathquiz2017.blogspot.com. Registration
after 11 April 2017 (updated 6 April 2017) will NOT be
entertained.
8. Withdrawal or exchange of participants in a team without a good reason will NOT to be allowed and the entry fee will NOT be refunded. Absence or withdrawal of one of the participants will result in disqualification of the respective team automatically.
9. Participants must register at the registration counter and hand in the Parent Permission Form during the registration no later than 8.45am. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify teams that register after 8.45am or register without Parental Consent Form.
10. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify a participant and his group if any participant is found to be copying or cheating, trying to copy or trying to cheat during the competition, or bringing in any materials that is not permitted.
11. Scoring for Maths Quiz are as follows: -
- Objective Questions (First session) - 2 points awarded for each correct answer and 1 point deducted for each wrong answer. No marks deducted / provided for unanswered questions.
- Subjective Questions (Second session) - marking scheme for every question covers the working steps as well as the correct answers and is fixed by the organizer.
- Subjective Questions (Third session) - marking scheme covers the working steps as well as the correct answers.
12. Awards for each category,
- Individuals Awards - given to the 5 best participants. Individual awards will be based on objective question scores in the first session. In case of equal scores, scoring will be based on the last 10 objective questions. Prizes will be given to the champion, first runner-up and third place, while certificates will be given to all the 5 participants.
- Team awards - given to the 5 best teams . Team awards will be based on the total score of the First Session and Second Session. Prizes will be given to the champion, first runner-up and third place, while certificates will be given to all 5 teams.
13. The Best School Award is assessed based on the total
score of the first session, the second session and the third session for both
the senior and junior categories. The winning school will be able to bring
back a large trophy to be exhibited in the school for the year.
14. Each participant is
required to wear neat school uniform, bring his/her own stationery,
especially 2B pencils, scientific calculator with no programming and a jacket.
15. Lunch will be provided to each participant and their
teacher. Participants are requested to bring their own drinking water.
16. The
organizer reserves the right to modify or update any rules and regulations of the
Maths Quiz as described above from time
to time.
